Somewhere along the way to this point in my life, I got it in my head that you should always have plenty of canned goods and non-perishables in case you need to throw together a quick meal. I don’t even know why we have a pantry, because it is basically starts an avalanche when you open it.

Hint: That newly organized garage is a great place to store the extras as long as it doesn’t get too hot. When you start running low, check your inventory before you buy more! Consolidate the bottles you can and take good inventory of what you have. Wherever you keep your cleaning supplies, if you are like me, you have about 4 quarter-full bottles of Windex. I recommend some kind of shelving at a minimum so you can get things off the ground and actually be able to find the item when you need it. Either throw it away or find a place for it that is not the floor. Most of us have garages that have become the holding space for anything we don’t know what to do with. If you are one of those people who has a spot for every single thing in your garage, props to you! I’ve met very few of you in my life. This may need to be broken up into a couple days or done on a Saturday since it will likely be a bigger job. Granted, my mom was the first one to hold on to that and it somehow got passed to me, but I am going to go out on a limb here and say, we can safely throw away rags that are 25+ years old. I recently found a rag that was part of a hooded towel I used as a baby. Or better yet, convert the old towels to rags and throw out all the shreds of rags. Get rid of towels that aren’t soft or have shrunk too much and buy new ones. So, we have about 38 towels for our 2 person household and many, many more rags. I am the absolute WORST about keeping anything that might be useful in the future. Similar to above, get rid of all the clothes in your closet that you don’t wear and store anything that is seasonal or for a special occasion only.

I broke this out from the dresser, because it can be a big task (and exhausting)! Take it one step at a time and do half today and half tomorrow. Go through those clothes, get rid of what you don’t wear at all, and pull out seasonal outfits to be stored somewhere else. In reality, I just don’t wear half the clothes that are taking up space in the dresser. I always feel like our dresser isn’t big enough.

I have also been looking at something like this under sink roll out drawer set to add some extra space. Either use them or throw them in the trash! Similar to the kitchen sink, I am adding bins to keep things organized under the bathroom sink. This includes all 27 of those half used Bath & Body Works soaps, lotions, and bubble baths you have stuffed under there. I added some bins to keep things contained that seem to be helping this time, but I still plan to revisit this area every couple months! No matter how organized I make the area under the sink, it always turns into a disaster within a few months. Use the list below to declutter your house in just 30 days, one day at a time! I made this list of 30 places and things to declutter in our home and then focused on one area each day (or sometimes, I did two areas and skipped a day later in the week). That is the main reason I quit my job months before Baby O was scheduled to be here after all. As we were preparing for our first baby to be here, I took the opportunity to get our house in order.
